It’s Labor Day. Officially for many people Labor Day signals the end of summer. Traditionalists in the south stop wearing white a color reserved for the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Pools get ready to close for the season. Beaches are less crowded. Children go back to school. Except this year is different. In many places children are returning to school and staying home.
Online learning because of COVID-19 prevents a large number of school districts from opening as usual in September. Teachers are perfecting how to engage their students in distance learning while feeling a certain level of discomfort. Parents are concerned that their children may fall behind if they are not in a regular classroom. COVID-19 has robbed families of a sense of certainty and order. COVID-19 has robbed us of other normal activities, or at least it seems that way.
Despite all of the changes we have faced in 2020 there is still one certainty. God is with us. God will never leave us. God promised not to forsake us. God never said we would not have to work through difficult times.
When tough times come our way we lean on God. When the work is hard, we seek God’s help. We lean actively, not passively. We ask God to guide us in the resolution of our problems. We ask God to show us how to handle difficult situations. We turn back to God when shown the error of the path we chose to take. We seek God’s covering when life becomes hard to handle.
COVID-19 will some day be a thing of our past. We will remember our struggles and our triumphs. We will thank God for our deliverance and for the health and strength we have because we are more than conquerors.
It will not always be this way. We will be able to hug, to talk without masks, and to be less than 6 feet apart in God’s time. Let’s not rush to force our time in the middle of God’s plan. God’s time and God’s plan is always perfect.
