African Americans in Art and Media
The images of African Americans are often distorted in print and visual media. Creative geniuses such as Henry O. Tanner, Gordon Parks, Sr. and Augusta Savage offer profoundly different views of African Americans experiences in this country. The cultural diversity captured in rich expressions of hope flow from the paint brush, to the camera, to the sculptor's clay. Spend a few moments with Union Bethel AME Church, Cary as we dissect problematic imagery and celebrate ground-breaking artists who fought to display positive images of African American life.
