December 1 was International HIV/AIDS Day. In many countries, cities, towns, neighborhoods, and places of worship, people gathered to remember those lost to AIDS and to support those living with HIV. Prayers for healing were lifted. Words were spoken about new research and preventive measures. People gave encouraging words of hope. Hope is a wonderful emotion to share with anyone.
On the first Sunday in Advent we celebrate hope for the coming Savior. As followers of Christ Jesus we do believe that our healing comes from the work of Christ Jesus to be the sacrificial lamb for all of our sins. Although we are living in a time where another great disease afflicts a large number of people, we have not lost hope.
As God has provided in the past for people to do more than just survive but to thrive in the face of great opposition, God will again lift us out of the darkness. We have to cling to hope. Hope is not an aimless belief that life will get better. Hope in God acknowledges that we have a difficult road in front of us but our hope gives us the strength to keep walking. Have hope. Share hope.
