The Second Sunday of Advent celebrated the coming savior with a focus on peace. Peace is too often a commodity that gets set aside in the hustle and bustle of life. Peace, in the classical understanding, is an absence of war or lack of a disturbance leading to tranquility. Peace for a follower of Christ Jesus does not mean we are free of disturbances or tribulations. Peace for the Christian does pass all human understanding because it is calmness and having a gentle spirit in the midst of the storm. Peace does not mean the storms do not come. Peace means we say “Be Still” to any hectic, harried, or agitated response to the tribulation. Peace means we totally relay on God to get us through any situation.
Are you at peace? Is your spirit resting comfortably in the knowledge that God walks with us in our trials? The next time a disturbance threatens to steal our calm focus on God, speak peace. We have this peace from God if we will call on Christ Jesus in the storm. The word peace appears at least 429 times in the Holy Bible. Peace is important. Find the Bible verse that gives you peace and speak it to yourself when times get difficult. Seek peace. Be at peace.
