October ended last week. For some the weather is now cooling off and there is a touch of fall in the air. Leaves may have changed color and are now falling to the ground. Thoughts of turkey, greens, ham, and pie are on the minds of more than a few people. However, what should be our thoughts in this season of Thanksgiving?
We live in a country of contrasts. So many have more than they need. Too many struggle to survive. So many live with excess. Too many waste nothing of the little that they have. Even in these contrasts there is a middle ground of people who are good today but tomorrow or next week could bring a pivotal event that changes everything. So what can Thanksgiving mean in these circumstances.
Take this month of November for quiet meditation and introspection to reflect on where we have been, where we are now, and, where we want to be. Think on those challenges that did not break us but helped us gain perseverance. Remember those victories where God stepped in to make a way when we could not see clearly how the situation would be resolved. Give thanks for the little things as wells as those situations that were too much for us to handle.
God is listening for our thank you. This November, this season of days leading to Thanksgiving, take time to be thankful. When we consider the blessings we have received, when we give thanks to God for the love shown to us, we brighten our spirits and put ourselves in a mind to spread that love to others who may be struggling in a place that we know all about because we have been there. We have been there but for the grace of God we are not there now.
Thank you God! Do not just use words of thanks. Use deeds also. Actions do speak louder than words. Actions of thanks and gratitude speak volumes and send a genuine message of love.
